- Gerald Morris (LGCC Board Member) has put together some additional information that is especially useful for anyone seeking to establish a screen using clumping bamboos in the Gulf Coast region. (PDF file): Screening suggestions.
- The following documents are PDF files that Dr. Mike Hotchkiss and the late Richard Waldren spent a great deal of time producing from 3 USDA information pamphlets that have long been out of print and are difficult to find as originals. These are very large files that are best downloaded with a high speed connection.
- This document was reproduced from USDA Agriculture Handbook No. 114, titled Bamboos of the Genus Phyllostachys Under Cultivation in the United States. It was written by Frank A. McClure and issued in June, 1957. It is loaded with valuable information on identifying a limited number of Phyllostachys species that were known to be in the US at that time. This file is apx. 33 MB: USDA No. 114.
- This document was reproduced from USDA Technical Bulletin No. 1361, titled Fiber and Papermaking Characteristics of Bamboo. It was put together by the Agricultral Research Service of the USDA from data produced by the Herty Foundation in Savannah, GA and issued in Aug, 1966. It contains a great deal of information about using bamboo fiber for pulp production. This file is apx. 12 MB: USDA TB No. 1361.
- This document was reproduced from USDA Home and Garden Bulletin Number 76, titled Growing Ornamental Bamboo. It was prepared by the Science and Education Administration. While some of the information is a bit outdated, it still contains very useful information about bamboo in general. This file is apx. 5 MB: USDA H&GB No. 76.
- The following document is a history of bamboo at Avery Island researched and authored by Andy Ringle and Marler Spence. It contains invaluable information on some of the early bamboo introductions into the US.: McIlhenny, Bamboo Pioneer.
